Jenni AI — the Super App for Academic Writing (with Huge Discounts)

I have been using Jenni.ai for the last several months and I must say it is one of the best AI apps available for academic writing today.

As of today, 1.5 million academics and students are using it all over the world. This number is only going to increase when the academic year starts next month.

When I first wrote about it a few months ago, David Park, the CEO of Jenni, reached out to me and asked what kind of features I would like see in the app.

Pricing and discount code are at the end of the post.

David and I had several conversations about the kind of functionality that could be added to Jenni to make academic writing easier, especially for folks whose first language is not English.

The set of recent updates to Jenni has made it something of a “super app” for acdemic writing. Below is a rundown of Jenni’s most productive features.

1. Outline Builder

After you have created an account, this is how your screen would look like. Click on “New Document“ in the middle of your screen to get started.

Jenni will ask you what you would like to write. Type in the title of your project. If you are starting from scatch, you can ask Jenni to give you an outline. To do so, check “Outline Builder.“

Jenni will create a basic outline for you to get started. The purpose of the outline is not to do all the work for you but to get you started so you don’t feel intimated by the blank page.

You can, of course, edit the outline as you go.

2. No More Writer’s Block

If you are confident that you don’t need an outline, you can skip it. Keep the “Outline Builder“ unchecked and click on “Start Writing.“

Jenni will give you a sentence to get started. Now this sentence will be a generic one but it will be good enough to get you started. Again, the purpose is not to write for you, but to help you write.

If you think the sentence is productive enough, you can use the right arrow key to accept it. Otherwise, you can write your own sentence.

3. Customized Writing Suggestions

You can also get Jenni to give you suggestions customized for you. For this, you will first need to upload the papers that you are reading for your project.

Click on the “Library“ button in the left sidebar and upload the papers related to your project.

Jenni will process your papers and the next time you write, it will give you suggestions based on the texts of the papers you uploaded.

Here is a quick example of a sentence based on the texts of the papers I uploaded.

If you compare it with thre previous suggestion where Jenni said something about Andersen not being in India duirng the 19th century, this sentence is a lot more calibrated to the title of my project.

4. Citation Suggestions Powered by Scite

Jenni can also suggest sources for citation and further reading. Click on the “Cite“ button at the bottom of your screen and Jenni will give you a list of sources related to what you have written.

If you insert a citation, Jenni will automatically format it according to MLA, APA, Harvard, or IEEE style guides.

These citation suggestions are powered by Scite.ai, which has a database of 1.2 billion citations statements.

Jenni also offers you a reading copilot. Click on the speech bubble-like icon in the bottom-right corner to open your reading copilot.

6. ChatGPT for Your Papers

Jenni also lets you “chat“ with journal articles. Go to your library and click on “PDF Chat.“ It’s like having a ChatGPT but for your own papers.

Jenni will open a chatbox for you to the right side of your screen. Now you can ask questions about your paper while reading.
